What cookies are

A cookie is a text file a website leaves on a visitor’s device to remember something between one page and the next. Alongside cookies there are similar technologies — browser local storage, tracking pixels — which work differently but raise the same questions, so this page covers them together.

Strictly necessary cookies

These start without asking, because without them the site does not do its job. They are not used to recognise you or to build a profile.

• Cloudflare Turnstile — protects the signup and contact forms from automated submissions. Without it, the organisation’s inbox would be buried under machine-generated messages. The check is almost always invisible: you are not asked to solve anything.
• Cloudflare — the site is served by Cloudflare’s network, which uses technical identifiers to route traffic and recognise malicious requests.
• Consent preference — the choice you make on the banner is remembered; otherwise the banner would reappear on every page.

Measurement and marketing cookies

These start only after you consent and stop as soon as you withdraw it. They are handled by Cloudflare Zaraz, which loads the tools below server-side and only for the categories you have accepted.

• Google Analytics 4 — counts visits and shows which pages are read and which are not. It tells us whether a page is useful or whether nobody opens it.
• Meta Pixel — measures how many signups come from advertising campaigns on Facebook and Instagram. Without it we would not know which ads work, and we would keep paying for the ones that do not.

When you subscribe to the newsletter you land on a confirmation page, and the visit to that page is what counts as a signup. When you write from the contact page, a successful submission generates an event recording that it went through. In neither case is your email address sent to the measurement tools.

How to change your mind

At the bottom of every page there is a Cookie preferences link: it reopens the consent panel and lets you accept or refuse each category. The choice takes effect immediately and you can change it as often as you like.

You can also delete cookies already stored from your browser settings. Bear in mind that clearing everything also clears the memory of your choice, and the banner will come back.

Who processes the data, and where to look

The data controller, the purposes, the retention periods and your rights are set out in the privacy policy: this page does not repeat them, because a detail like that written in two places sooner or later drifts apart.
